In a group of IBM computer experts were trying to compete with hackers for the technology to make a new personal computer. After the ruling, John Ashford went to work for a different company.
While there, he helped some other companies that had been suing one another over the same patent. He eventually became the longest serving member of the U.S. Commission on Patent Law or USPTO. During his time at USPTO, he has developed a reputation as one of the best lawyers out there.
